Ahoy there! This little Web site is our way of introducing ourselves to the wonderful people we meet along the way during our sailing escapades. Think of it as our modern take on the stone-aged paper business card—because, let’s face it, those things seem a little outdated.
We are Markus and Bettina, a fun-loving, happy couple of accidental sailors. We have always been fascinated by the sight of boats gliding effortlessly through the water, pushed by nothing but the wind. Yet, we never truly set sail until later in life, when our kids’ interest gave us the needed push to learn sailing and to embark on our own nautical adventures.
You might have seen us in a marina, expertly demonstrating how not to dock a boat. At anchorages, you will find us in an epic quest for the elusive perfect spot, all while providing free entertainment to fellow boaters. Out on the open water, we are that cheerful duo you will see waving enthusiastically as more competent sailors zip by us—all while we enjoy a beverage and a snack in the sun-soaked cockpit. And of course, at your local watering hole, we are the ones savoring the local food and occasionally embarrassing ourselves with a dance or two.
We are on a mission to have tons of fun aboard our trusty and steadfast sailboat, Koko, a next-generation Island Packet 349. Think of us as your modern-day explorers—though we are more inclined to enjoy a good coastal sunset than to wrestle with wild oceans.
Open Waters
Feel free to explore the open pages of our blog, where we plan to share the occasional fish tale, lessons learned, crazy ideas, and ask for your help and advice. This section is open to everyone, and we hope it brings a bit of the salty sea breeze to your day, no matter where you are. Sure, we are still a little like a seafood restaurant that is only serving appetizers at the moment. But do not worry, the main course is coming—we plan on opening up more of the content over time.
